Tech or Personal?

Well fans, I have to ask: what type of content do you want and expect to read on this blog?
I have a lot of technical stuff that I’ve been resisting to blog because I feel that most of the people that check here aren’t my tech friends, and don’t really give a damn about an update to my rails plugins or some hip new javascript technique.
So, the way I see it I have two options:- Create different “streams.” This would be like three different versions of toolmantim.com all running off different subdomains, like nerd.toolmantim.com and life.toolmantim.com.
- Create another blog for the tech stuff (maybe an aviditybytes blog?)
What are your thoughts?

I think you should blog about both, and provide two (or more) different feeds so people can subscribe to your senseless drivel about photos and weddings, or your senseless drivel about how rails is better than ColdFusion. So, same site… two feeds.

mmm it’s a pickle that you be in, I think that with the way you have styled this blog, with only the latest blog entry showing it may alienate your family/friend readers. hmmm tought call.

oh I would like it to be very personal and gossipy please. Lots of angry tee-dog venting. Like this: www.trent.blogspot.com – my favourite snarky blog with funny doctored pics.

Gav: but most people don’t use feeds…
James: Hrmm I think I may do a side-by-side split. Thanks!
penny: haha that is the trashiest blog I’ve ever seen. Hrmm… maybe you should be starting our first gossipy blog seeing as you’re sitting on the vein of pop culture and all?

what about this one? www.thesuperficial.com – hilarious. And it’s written by a dude. And also www.gofugyourself.com – gold!

I’ll go with Penny!! Time to vent your spleen :)

Well, thus far this blog has alienated just about everyone with its high post modern style of blogging not just about blogging, but about this very blog. So, the only way is up.
This is probably a quite prosaic idea, but I would start two completely separate blogs, one for tech, one for personal. People will find each of them and subscribe, or come back to, whichever one floats their boat, or both of them. Yeah, do it on the same subdomain if you want, or, sieze the day and create a new persona for yourself for one of them.
Mixing together the personal and the technical from the getgo is a tricky proposition in terms of maintaining any sort of serious readership IMO .

Maxine: you lost me with ”...this blog has alienated just about everyone with its high post modern style of blogging not just about blogging, but about this very blog”

I’ll get to work on concocting a spleen venting (veen splenting?), photo doctoring post of madness just for you, Amit and PenoĆ.

Yeah, i too vote for more gossipy venting.
