My Year in Cities, 2006

December 25, 2006 12:26 (Laidley Australia)

Merry Christmas! If you’re not in feed reader I hope you enjoy the baubles and star from our chrissy tree (thanks to my sis Jo and my new step-Mum Ira’s decorating skills).

Seeing as Dr Nic and Kottke seem to be reflecting on their travels this year, I thought I’d play along too (though I’ve taken a very liberal definition of “cities”).

Places I’ve visited in 2006 for at least one night, in chronological order:

  1. Sydney, NSW, Australia (naturally)
  2. Austin, TX, USA
  3. Las Vegas, NV, USA
  4. Yosemite, CA, USA
  5. San Francisco, CA, USA
  6. New York, NY, USA
  7. London, England
  8. Bath, England
  9. Paris, France
  10. Venice, Italy
  11. Rome, Italy
  12. Amsterdam, Netherlands
  13. Bangkok, Thailand
  14. Snowy Mountains, NSW, Australia
  15. Melbourne, VIC, Australia
  16. Laidley, QLD, Australia

I’d be happy doing a lot less international travel next year. For the new year I’ve already locked in Airlie Beach, Whitsundays, QLD; Melbourne, VIC, Australia; and most probably New Zealand too.

How was your 2006?

I will no longer pity any Australians when they complain about being too far from the rest of the world! I can only come up with 12:

  1. Seattle
  2. Portland
  3. Boise
  4. New York
  5. San Francisco
  6. Denver
  7. Chicago
  8. Sydney
  9. Oslo, Norway
  10. Aalesund, Norway
  11. London
  12. Manchester

Tim Lucas

Geoff: I bet you’d be feeling pity for us if you compared the cost of the flights.

I think most Aussies make a big trip of it when they travel north as the biggest cost is just getting there.

Gav

Plus places 20-30 were done from Ireland- not Australia. Never would’ve been able to do it if were still in Sydney.

Yeah, you’re right. Pity has been restored to its previous levels. ;)
